nowMessenger! is a 100% Java program provided as a Java Web Start application. With Java Web Start, you launch nowMessenger! using the Web link below. If this is the first time you've downloaded nowMessenger!, Java Web Start automatically downloads all necessary files. These are cached on your computer so nowMessenger! is always ready to be relaunched anytime you want -- either from an icon on your desktop or from the browser link. And no matter which method you use to launch nowMessenger!, the most current version is automatically used.

To take nowMessenger! for a free spin you need to:

install Java Web Start for your system, making sure you select the installation that includes the Java Runtime Environment. If you are not on a Windows system, you may need to install Java 2 (Java 1.3) or better JVM as well.

For users upgrading from Java 1.4 (or below) to Java 1.5

The Java WebStart delivered with JDK 1.5 places muffins in a different location than previous JDK releases. To retain any previous settings you will need to copy the nowMessenger! cookies to the new location.
On Linux/UNIX the original muffins are located in:
~/.javaws/muffins/http/Dwww.nowmessenger.com/P80/DMinstall/
and in JDK1.5 they are in:
~/.java/deployment/cache/javaws/muffins/http/Dwww.nowmessenger.com/P80/DMinstall/

On Windows the original muffins are located in:
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\javaws\cache\muffins\http\Dwww.nowmessenger.com\P80\
and in JDK1.5 they are in:
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javaws\muffins\http\Dwww.nowmessenger.com\P80\
Note:Your root drive (C:) and your username (User) may vary, and the difference in the paths is the order of the javaws and cache folders.
Copying the files from the original location to the new location will restore your settings.
